Original Artworks
Here you can find Yavanna's original charcoal artworks - each one taking anywhere from 30 to100 hours to complete. Because of the length of time required to produce each piece, Yavanna only produces a few pieces a year.
Most artworks sell soon after completion and before they are listed on the website. Please keep an eye on up-coming artworks in the "Work-in-progress" page and use the contact form if you would like to purchase or commission an artwork.

Artist statement: I thoroughly enjoyed drawing this artwork. The bokeh effect was a challenge that I learnt a lot from. It always surprised me how blurry things needed to be drawn to create the out-of-focus fields in the image. My favourite part of this drawing was erasing the highlights on the skin and the reflections in the eyeball to give a 'wet' look to the texture.

Artist statement: This was my favourite cow when doing a placement on a dairy farm. She would always stop on her way out of the milking shed and lower her head down into the pit for a pat. She even posed in front of a sleigh as a reindeer for a farm Christmas photo! Alas, she is no longer with us, but her memory lives on.

Artist statement: An African elephant and 3 dorky birds. Can you find all three? I thoroughly enjoyed capturing the texture on the upper trunk and forehead of the elephant. This was my first drawing on Arches watercolour hot press paper, and I was able to be much more precise with my mark making than previously. I will certainly be using this paper again.

Artist statement: The composition of this tasteful nude was largely inspired by the work of south african artist Jono Dry. His exquisite compositions helped inspire the form and layout of the subject.

Artist Statement: This was my first ever drawing using carbon pencils. These are similar in molecular structure to charcoal - the carbon breaks off in irregular chunks, so it scatters the reflected light. This means the dark areas on the drawing don't shine like graphite would.

Artist statement: this surrealism piece was a steep learning curve. Multiple reference photos were used to base this unusual composition of a New Zealand red deer bust on a plinth. I enjoyed learning to draw the different textures of stone, cloth, antler and fur.
